This documentary looks at the “forgotten occupation” of Haiti and how that occupation impacts Haiti even today. After the screening there will be a discussion on oppression and its impacts including on the LGBTI community.
The story revolves around Brunel Martin, who came of age during Haiti’s brutal occupation at the hands of United States Marines. Yet, he went on to become a fierce advocate of the country that destroyed his. A decade after his death, his grandson wrote him a letter trying to reconcile the contradictions.
After the screening there will be a discussion with the Film maker Alain Martin facilitated by Robin Parker. The discussion will be 45 minutes or longer if needed.

Facilitator Robin Parker is the Executive Director of the Beyond Diversity Resource Center. His work focuses on building a more inclusive society through anti-oppression training and organizational development. He is a coauthor of The Anti-Racist Cookbook, a guide for conversations about race. Prior to joining the Center, Parker was a Deputy Attorney General in the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice, and Chief of the Office of Bias Crime and Community Relations. Parker is a graduate of the University of Illinois Law School and Rutgers University.
