For those who awakened sexually during the AIDS epidemic, sexual expression became intertwined with fear. Even though advances in medication and treatment have changed the HIV landscape, many still carry patterns of fear or armor around their sexuality.
At a time in life meant for adventure and experimentation, a monster lurked. We wanted to be free, to know the fullness of our erotic power but were simultaneously terrified seeing the bodies of our lovers fall around us.
We cannot change our past, but we can heal. We may never know the full potential of a life lived with complete erotic freedom, but to reclaim our Life Force energy and return it to its central role in our emotional, physical and spiritual health is possible and vitally important.
This is the work of the Body Electric School.
The Body Electric School was born during the AIDS epidemic as Joseph Kramer brought forth his unique healing work. Bringing healing touch to a community in distress.
Ed Wolf’s story began at the same time, in the same place and it is yet another important, compassionate response to an illness that traumatized an entire generation and their relationship to their erotic health.
Ed Wolf is a master storyteller, bringing forth his vitally important historical memoir. Ed was a Shanti volunteer in the first AIDS ward in San Francisco. Through the magic of Ed’s storytelling, we will travel back in time. To revisit the armor that we may still be unconsciously carrying. To give thanks for its protection and refashion it to fit our lives in this new era.
Between Ed’s excerpts, Lui Gervais will invite participants to feel into their bodies for their armor. To describe the areas and sensations where the patterns of fear still live. To then transform these feelings into breath and sound. To move physically to release the feelings and sensations that emerge.
Native American traditions have rituals to remove the armor created in childhood. It is time now for us as a community to revisit and refashion the armor we built from the AIDS epidemic. To become lighter and freer. To allow more Life Force energy to flow through our bodies, minds and spirits.
