Ed Wolf has had a long career as a social worker that began in the first AIDS ward in San Francisco. He is a master storyteller in the final chapters of bringing forth his vitally important memoir. His writing is powerful and tender. When he reads, it connects listeners with the long-buried (assumed forgotten) pain and sadness of the AIDS years. Like treating a cyst that we cannot see, his writing pierces that embodied trauma and brings important healing.
The Body Electric School was born during the AIDS epidemic as Joseph Kramer brought forth his unique healing work in response. Ed’s story starts in the same place, at the same time and although it follows a different path, it is yet another compassionate response to an illness that traumatized an entire generation and their relationship to their erotic health and freedom.
All gay men alive at that time carry some embodied memories of fear and AIDS armor. Thankfully, the fear is getting much smaller with the advance of medications, but the embodied memory will never go away entirely. It is part of the story of the lives that lived and loved in this era.
Join Ed Wolf and facilitator Lui Gervais for a 2 hour online event on April 6, 2025. Ed will read passages from his book. It will be very emotional for many in the Body Electric community. Although it is unlike the somatic offerings the Body Electric School typically offers, his writing digs deep into sensation and emotion. Ed is beautifully heart-centered and soft-spoken. Hearing his words read aloud will be a beautiful healing event for everyone in the BE community.
